Five data protection errors committed by small businesses.

Data protection mistakesSmall businesses have hundreds of concerns, including cash flow management, compliance with customer needs, and managing employees. Data loss should not be one of them.

We recently conducted a poll about data loss and data protection in small businesses. It showed that most small business data protection is taken seriously, performing daily backups or continuous over half. Sin embargo, a significant number of them do not make backups at all. Let's explore the types of missing data protection of small businesses.

1. Any protection

Small businesses are busy. To do dozens of tasks, and there is never enough time. Some companies do backups at all. They expect that their hard drives do not fail, that coffee will not spill, and that employees do not accidentally delete anything. While it may be that business casual fend, many more suffer after finally losing data. Having a backup is a safeguard against any problems that might come up.

2. daily protection

A backup is not enough. Protects at that time instant, but it does not cover anything in the future. Some small businesses we surveyed make only one backup per month, and a month is a long time between backups. An employee can spend a whole month on a project, and accidentally delete it before the next scheduled backup. The best data protection are daily backups.

3. Endpoint Protection

Some small businesses have a file server and tell their employees to store all your files in it. The workflow makes it easier: only one team management and protection. If a laptop is dying, the employee files are safe on the server. Sin embargo, that means that employees are continuing. What we have discovered is that employees are trying to do things, not to make IT easier. Using centrally managed remote files can be a headache for large file formats such as Photoshop and even PowerPoint, and require direct network connection, which it makes remote work harder. The endpoint protection ensures that all desktops and laptops are protected, and advanced file filtering allows administrators to minimize storage costs easily.

4. external protection

Local storage for backup is a good first step, but having only a single internal copy of the data of your business does not increase the odds. Most likely something to happen. They could be fire, floods, or a simple accident in the server closet. Many companies use storage site outside the -Tape, disk or storage in the cloud-to protect your data in a second to avoid any data loss and significant downtime after an accident, failure or catastrophe.

5. Mobile security

The rise of mobile devices has made “Bring your own device” (TSPD) an inevitable part of IT environment of all businesses. Employees do not want to carry two devices only check email for work, but employers must ensure that their corporate data is protected on mobile devices, like any other device in the company. You should make a backup of data from mobile devices such as emails, notes and custom data-specialist applications.
